Las Vegas eyeing Chargers if Raiders stay put

For all the Oakland Raiders relocation discusssion, the San Diego Chargers could be in play if their AFC West rival stays home. If that’s the case, the Chargers could be in play for Las Vegas as well.

Las Vegas Mayor Carol Goodman joined the “Dan Patrick Show” earlier this week and said that she and her husband have a good relationship with Chargers owner Alex Spanos. She said that the team wants to move out of the city and they could possibly talk to them about moving to Las Vegas if the Raiders decide to stay in Oakland.

“My husband and I have had season tickets at the Chargers for the past 30-plus years and we would love that, and Alex Spanos already has some relationship with us here in the city — he’s been a developer for us in the ’70s and ’80s,” Goodman said. “I know they’re absolutely looking to move and that’s another place to go.”

The Chargers have already agreed to join the Rams in Los Angeles, but will stay home for the 2016 season and try to get a new stadium deal done. However, making the move to Las Vegas could be a good thing for the team going forward.

“Whether it’s the Chargers or Oakland,” she said, “that would really be exciting.”
