Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley is really coming into his own. As a freshman, Ridley burst onto the scene and immediately made his impact felt by breaking former Crimson Tide star Amari Cooper’s freshman receiving record.
There is no telling how impressive Ridley will be on the field as he continues to develop and mature, but at least one analyst believes Ridley could end up being a better overall player.
“He’s a faster Amari Cooper,” ESPN analyst Tom Luginbill said on the Out of Bounds radio show on Monday. “Calvin Ridley is the most dangerous wide receiver in the SEC West this season.”
Ridley has reportedly already beat Cooper’s 40-yard dash time. Before Cooper was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 2015, he posted a time of 4.42 seconds at the combine. During spring testing this year, Ridley clocked a 4.35, slightly faster than Cooper by .07 seconds.
That is some very high praise for the sophomore pass catcher.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Ridley has plenty of time to catch Cooper in the Alabama record books, but he has a lot of work to do. However, as long as he can continue performing at a high level, those records will be within reach.
