Zach Mettenberger released by Titans

In a bit of surprising news on Monday morning, the Tennessee Titans announced the release of backup quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who started ten games for the team over the last two seasons.

Mettenberger was the primary backup to last year’s No. 2 overall pick, Marcus Mariota, but will now be looking for a new job.

It is a bit surprising that the Titans were unable to move Mettenberger for a late-round pick, but ultimately he should not be out of work long. With a weak quarterback market, Mettenberger immediately comes one of the most talented free agents at the position.

Through the first two years of his NFL career, Mettenberger has a quarterback rating of 75.4. The former LSU standout has thrown for 2,347 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Mettenberger is expected to find a new home within the next few days.
