Report: Fredi Gonzalez learned of firing from accidental email

It is a cruel, cruel world, as former Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez learned this week.

On Tuesday morning, the Braves announced Gonzalez had been fired after six seasons, following an MLB worst 9–28 record. The firing wasn’t entirely surprising, but it appears as though Gonzalez may have learned of his fate in an unfortunate way.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Gonzalez received an email on Monday night about a plane ticket to Atlanta on Tuesday.

That’s likely when Gonzalez figured things out, considering the Braves are currently playing a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Steel City through Thursday.

Awkward.

It’s definitely an unfortunate situation, but at least the email served as a bit of a heads up for Gonzalez. It could have been worse. Like many others, Gonzalez could have learned his fate on social media before being informed by the team.
