Canisius head coach Jim Baron set to retire

The Canisius Golden Griffins men’s basketball team will have to begin a search for a new head coach. On Friday, longtime NCAA basketball coach Jim Baron announced his plans to call it a career.

With Baron on the outs, associate head coach Pat Clarke is expected to assume the rule of interim coach.

The 62-year-old Baron has been coaching at the Division I level for the last 29 years.

Prior to joining the Griffins for the last four years, Baron spent time leading the St. Francis (PA) program. After getting his feet wet in the coaching world, he went on to spend 20 years in the Atlantic 10 with St. Bonaventure and Rhode Island.

Baron will certainly be missed on the sidelines as the Griffins look to move forward in 2016.

Congrats on a long career, coach!
