Thousands of NFL players at risk after medical records stolen

Thousands of NFL players received an email recently informing them that their private medical records had been stolen.

The backpack of a Washington Redskins athletic trainer obtaining the uencrypted electronic and paper medical records was taken and although there are no signs that any information has been leaked, all players at risk were notified recently.

NFLPA executive director, DeMaurice Smith, sent the email informing players of the security breach.

 “The NFLPA has consulted with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regarding this matter. The NFLPA also continues to be briefed by the NFL on how they intend to deal with both the breach by a club employee, the violation of NFL and NFLPA rules regarding the storage of personal data, and what the NFL intends to do with respect to notifying those who may be affected. We will keep you apprised of what we hear from the team and League,” the email read.

Every player to attend the scouting combine since 2004 and certain Redskins players are said to be the individuals at risk.
