Dana White says Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz rematch is in jeopardy

The Ultimate Fighting Championship was forced to delay a rematch between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, who defeated the brash Irishman earlier this year, after McGregor refused press obligations and had a public contract dispute.

The conflict between McGregor and the UFC led to McGregor’s removal from UFC 200 and now it appears as though the rematch is jeopardy altogether.

UFC president Dana White went on a media tour Thursday and made stops with ESPN and FOX Sports. During his media appearances, White opened up on the contract negotiations and made it clear that making the fight is proving to be difficult.

In fact, if the fight isn’t finalized soon, McGregor may be forced to choose a different opponent.

“Lorenzo and I have to sit down and try to figure out how to make this deal work. We’ve been going back and forth trying to make this fight happen, but the problem is timing. Now we’re running out of time,” White said during an appearance on The Herd. “This fight is supposed to be Aug. 20. I’ve already got Sept. 20 done. So we’re going to get to a point here where we’re going to run out of time. Just not gonna be able to make the fight.

“So Conor is either going to have to pick a new opponent or lose that date.”
