David Wright placed on DL, to miss significant time

The New York Mets are currently second in the NL East and are trying to work their way back into contention to possibly make another run at the World Series. However, they will be without one of their top players as captain David Wright has been placed on the disabled list.

Wright reportedly has a herniated disk in his neck and the team took extra precautions by sitting him down. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported that he will be out of action for four to six weeks.

The injury in his neck is reportedly unrelated to the spinal stenosis in his back that caused him to miss four months of the 2015 season. He has only played in 37 games this season as he has been given regular days off to deal with back pain.

This might explain why the team is only 29-23 at this point in the year. Having David Wright on the field is a huge deal for the Mets as he .226, .350 and .438 in his three sessions with the team.

He has also racked up eight home runs and 14 RBIs on the year. Having him out for the next month or so could really hurt the team. They are three games back of the Washington Nationals and will have to rely on Wilmer Flores and Ty Kelly to fill the void at third base for now.
