Dismissed Texas Tech LB Dakota Allen charged with felony burglary

Last month, Dakota Allen was one of three players suspended from Texas Tech “due to a failure to uphold student-athlete expectations.” The other two players, sophomore offensive lineman Robert Castaneda and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Trace Ellison, were arrested in connection with a burglary in January and the linebacker joined them on Friday.

Now, all players involved have been dismissed.

The Associated Press reported that Allen was charged with burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony. This is the same charge Castaneda and Ellison were hit with, making it seem like the three were working together for the crime.

The three were accused of breaking into a home and stealing a gun cabinet, two digital cameras and a 40-inch television. Castaneda attempted to sell one of the guns, which was the ultimate downfall of the three.

Dakota Allen’s dismissal from the team was the most noteworthy as he was the team’s second-leading tackler in 2015. He would have been the team’s leading returning tackler this year after Micah Awe graduated.

During the 2015 season, Allen recorded 87 tackles, six for loss, and two interceptions.
