Four-star Alabama signee Kendell Jones fails to qualify, enrolls at JUCO

The Alabama Crimson Tide are expected to be one of the better teams in the country once again this year as they get ready to defend their national championship. However, they will be without a big part of their 2016 recruiting class as four-star defensive tackle Kendell Jones has failed to qualify.

Jones, who had been committed to Alabama since last May, failed to qualify academically and it was reported by SEC Network that his father said he began taking classes at a junior college on Monday. His father would not disclose the school.

This means that Jones, nicknamed “Hulk” for his sheer size, will not be playing at the FBS level for two years as he will have to graduate from the junior college first. He was just one of three defensive tackles to sign with Alabama this offseason.

Kendell Jones was expected to help bolster the defensive line almost immediately as they have to replace the likes of A’Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed, who both left for the NFL. Alabama will now have to hope JUCO defensive end Jamar King can get his grades straightened away to join the team this fall.
