The Cleveland Browns are trying to turn things around going into the 2016 season and despite drafting five wide receivers, the team insists on being a running team. One of their running backs they hope steps up this year is third-year guy Isaiah Crowell.
New head coach Hue Jackson seems to have been impressed with Crowell over the last few weeks. ESPN’s Pat McManamon reported that Jackson has been raving about Crowell this offseason and says that he has improved from his disappointing 2015 season.
McManamon wrote: “New coach Hue Jackson has shown immense confidence in running back Isaiah Crowell, who struggled last season and whose vision was sometimes lacking. The Browns did not draft or sign a running back, and Jackson has raved about the talent Crowell has. Crowell will get a great opportunity in his third season.”
During the 2015 season, Crowell rushed for 706 yards and four touchdowns. This was disappointing after his rookie season showed so much promise for him as he went for 607 yards and eight touchdowns.
If Crowell and Duke Johnson are able to perform like Jackson hopes they will, the Browns could start making noise in the NFL this year. Cleveland opens the season on September 11 when they travel to play the Philadelphia Eagles.
