Report: Sun Belt to add championship game in 2018

According to reports, the Sun Belt will begin playing a conference championship game in the 2018 season. This now means that every conference in the Football Bowl Subdivision will host championship games.

ESPN and the Associated Press reported that the Sun Belt will officially make an announcement later today.

Currently, the Sun Belt has 11 teams in the conference.

However, Idaho and New Mexico State did not have their memberships renewed. To make up for the loss of two teams, the Sun Belt will add Coastal Carolina, who moves up from the FCS to give the conference an even number of 10 members.

Conferences now need only ten members to hold a conference championship. Previously, 12 teams were required, but the NCAA Division I Legislative Council changed the rule earlier this year.
