Nevada DE Marc Ma dead after paddle board accident

The Nevada Wolf Pack was rocked by the tragic news of the passing of redshirt freshman Marc Ma. The 20-year-old defensive end died after a paddle board accident at Lake Tahoe on Saturday.

Ma was reportedly paddle boarding with several of his Nevada teammates when they were faced with strong winds about a mile and a half off shore. He went missing and the search for him was officially called off after a number of hours.

“Laura and I spent time at the lake today with Marc’s parents, Michele and Michael, and our thoughts and prayers are with Marc’s entire family and friends in Hawaii and with those close to him here in Reno,” Nevada coach Brian Polian said in a statement. “We share in their devastation and will support them in any way we can. We are thankful for the courageous efforts of search personnel.”

Marc Ma took a redshirt during the 2015 season with the Wolf Pack, but was hoping to be a huge part of their defense this year. The Honolulu, Hawaii native was a three-star member of Nevada’s 2015 recruiting class.
