Joey Bosa hasn’t signed, not at Chargers minicamp

A number of 2016 first-round selections have already signed their rookie deals and are ready to start contributing at their teams’ minicamps. However, San Diego Chargers rookie defensive end Joey Bosa is not one of those players.

It is being reported that the team’s third-overall pick has yet to sign his rookie deal and is currently not at minicamp because of it. Michael Gelker of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Bosa hasn’t signed and is the last of the top 19 picks to do so.

Before the new Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed in 2011, holdouts by rookie players was not unusual. However, today it has a lot to do with offset language, which stems from large sums of guaranteed money.

There is no doubt Joey Bosa will have a good bit of guaranteed money in his rookie contract. There is also no doubt he will be a huge piece for the Chargers going into the 2016 season, so they certainly want to get him on the field as soon as possible.
