UAB athletics receives largest-ever sponsorship in their history

Legacy Community Federal Credit Union has just announced the biggest-ever sponsorship for the UAB athletic program. The 20-year, $4.2 million naming rights agreement will greatly aid in the construction of the University’s Football Operations Center.

Both Legacy Community Federal Credit Union and Blazer IMG Sports Marketing entered into the sponsorship on behalf of the program. With this, Legacy becomes the official credit union of UAB.

The Blazers will also practice at Legacy Pavilion from now on, a huge development for the program

The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees sped up approval of the project’s expansion with the sponsorship, and granted permission to the school to execute contracts in regards to construction. With the extra funds, UAB is expected to break ground on the Football Operations Center that will include meeting and film rooms, an office space, locker rooms, a weight room and athletic training facilities.

There will also be practice fields, one of which will be covered by an open pavilion.

Head coach Bill Clark anticipates that construction will come to a close some time during the fall of next year.

“The impact this generous sponsorship has already had and will have on our program cannot be overstated,” Clark stated. “It allowed us to expand the scope of the project to build the facility we need, and it will greatly accelerate our competitiveness on the field and on the recruiting trail. We will be proud to practice every day under the Legacy name, which will serve as a reminder that we are fighting for a community that is behind us.”

Legacy has had connections with school for quite some time, as it was founded in 1955 by a staff of UAB employees to serve the University.

UAB Director of Atheletics Mark Ingram believes that construction will go smoothly and be finished in a timely manner.
