Indianapolis Colts to induct Bill Polian into Ring of Honor

Four years ago, the Indianapolis Colts fired Bill Polian. Now, the team is putting him the Ring of Honor among several other respected former Colts members. Polian is now just the 13th person to receive the honor.

His induction will take place in week 17 of the regular season, when the Colts take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“Bill was incredibly successful during his time with our franchise and proved to be a Hall of Famer,” Colts owner Jim Irsay stated. “He was one of the most innovative personalities to ever grace our sport, and his passion for the game was and still is unmatched. I will always be grateful to Bill for his contributions to the Colts, and to the NFL.”

Irsay may be praising Polian now, but he is the same person who fired the the former GM after the Colts went 2-14 in the 2011 season. The team’s struggle was likely associated with the loss of Peyton Manning due to a neck injury thar required several surgeries.

With his induction, Polian will join names like Bill Brooks, Robert Irsay, Tony Dungy, Chris Hinton, Ted Marchibroda, Jim Harbaugh, Marvin Harrison, Eric Dickerson, Marshall Faulk and Jeff Saturday.

We can expect to see Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney in this group as well eventually.
