The Oregon Ducks are looking to have a big year going into the 2016 season, however, they will do it without one of the more talented members of their 2015 class. It was reported on Monday that Kirk Merritt will be seeking a transfer out of Oregon to continue his career.
The report came from 247Sports’ DuckTerritory and it looks to be a huge blow for Mark Helfrich’s club this year. While Merritt only played a role in special teams and saw no action offensively, he was looking to play a bigger role for the offense this year.
During the 2015 season, Merritt caught five passes for 61 total yards. His role was expected to be expanded this year.
It certainly won’t be long before he finds a new home to continue his career. Kirk Merritt was a four-star running back out of Destrehan, Louisiana before being converted to a wide receiver.
He was the fifth-ranked all-purpose back in the country when he signed with the Ducks.
