Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the country this year and he will certainly be a big piece of the Tigers’ success this year. It seems like head coach Dabo Swinney has some pretty strong praise for his third-year signal caller.
Swinney recently spoke with Sports Illustrated and was asked about the possibility of Watson being the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The head coach gave an answer that is befitting of his character and makes his quarterback seem pretty special.
“He’s the franchise. He’s the unicorn,” Swinney said. “The guy has no flaws. He’s so talented, but he’s a better person than he is a football player. He’s so intelligent. He’s brilliant. He just gets it and he wants it. He’s hungry and humble for it.”
During the 2015 season, Deshaun Watson threw for over 4,100 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also rushed for over 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns, becoming the first player in FBS history to throw for over 4,000 yards and rush for over 1,000.
After finishing third in the 2015 Heisman Trophy voting, it is hard to say that Watson wouldn’t make a run at the trophy again this year. The Tigers open the season on Sept. 3 when they travel play the Auburn Tigers.
