Gators appoint search part for new AD

Last week, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley announced that he would be retiring from his post after 40 years with the Gators. Before he leaves in October, the school is set on trying to find a new leader for their athletics program.

On Wednesday, school president Ken Fuchs appointed a search party to go out and find a new athletic director. He does not want a search firm to be involved, which is why he selected former Florida trustee University Athletic Association board chairman Manny Fernandez to lead the committee.

“It is important that we identify a slate of qualified candidates who can build on the UAA’s previous successes,” Fuchs said. “I am confident the search committee, under the capable leadership of Manny Fernandez, will help us identify the very best.”

Whoever the Gators select to take over their program, he or she will have some big shoes to fill. Foley had major success with the teams in his career including helping them become the first team to win the national championship in football and men’s basketball in the same year in 2006.
