Early Sunday morning, reports surfaced that legendary Tennessee basketball coach Pat Summitt’s condition was worsening and her family was preparing for the worst.
Summitt was diagnosed with early onset dementia back in 2011, before being forced to step down as Vols women’s basketball coach.
Now, as her condition takes a turn for the worst, The Pat Summitt Foundation, which supports Alzheimer’s research, has released a statement on the behalf of her family.
“On behalf of Pat Summitt’s family, we acknowledge the past few days have been difficult for Pat as her early onset dementia, ‘Alzheimer’s Type,’ progresses. She is surrounded by those who mean the most to her and during this time, we ask for prayers for Pat and her family and friends, as well as your utmost respect and privacy. Thank you,” the statement read.
The fear is that Summitt may not have long after being moved to hospice care.
Our thoughts are with her family during this incredibly difficult time.
