Lionel Messi is one of the best soccer players in the world today, but it looks like at least part of his career is coming to an end. Following Argentina’s loss to Chile in the Copa America final, Messi announced that he would be retiring from international play.

Messi has been a part of many international honors in the past, but the only big title he has won with Argentina was the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics. He cites that he has done all he can with Argentina and that he doesn’t see a reason in staying with them further into the future.
“For me, the national team is over,” he said.. “I’ve done all I can. It hurts not to be a champion.”
The 29-year-old Lionel Messi has won eight La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues with Barcelona, but hasn’t had the same success with his home country. He has played in three Copa America finals, all of which they lost, and fell short of winning the 2014 World Cup with a 1-0 loss to Germany in the final.
