Torii Hunter Jr. to play football after signing with Los Angeles Angels.

Over the weekend, Torii Hunter Jr., son of former MLB outfielder Torii Hunter Sr., signed a contract to play for the Los Angeles Angels. However, he realizes that he has a commitment to the Notre Dame football program and he will play this fall.

Hunter has played for both the Fighting Irish’s football and baseball programs in the past. He was drafted by the Angels, who his dad played for from 2008-2012, in the 23rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft and signed a contract with the team on Saturday.

Thankful that they were there to experience this with me yesterday! I’m officially an Angel!✊🏾👼🏾

However, the redshirt junior will return for the Fighting Irish this season. He should make a big impact for Notre Dame going into the 2016 season.

Torii Hunter Jr. is the team’s leading receiver after they lost Will Fuller to the NFL and Corey Robinson to retirement due to concussions. He caught 28 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns last year.
