One way or another, the Mississippi State Bulldogs knew they would be losing a big part of their team going into the 2016-17 season. Former five-star guard Malik Newman had originally declared for the NBA Draft before pulling out and deciding to transfer out of Starkville.
It looks like now that the talented athlete will make his decision very soon. ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported that the point guard will make his decision on his transfer destination on Friday and the Kansas Jayhawks are the favorite.
Malik Newman likely decision Friday, source told ESPN. Just visited Kansas – they loved him out of HS, would not be shocked if ends up there

It is currently down to Kansas, NC State and Western Kentucky, who just landed 2017-18 five-star recruit Mitchell Robinson. If Malik Newman were to commit to the Hilltoppers, you could expect the team to compete in the Conference USA next year and likely make a run in the NCAA Tournament.
No matter where he ends up, Newman will have to sit out the 2016-17 season and will have three years of eligibility beginning next season.
