This Saturday, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will be stepping into the Octagon for the first time in almost five years as he takes on Mark Hunt at UFC 200. However, he doesn’t seem to know what he will be doing with his career in mixed martial arts once the fight has concluded.
He spoke with FOX Sports’ Damon Martin about his decision to retire from MMA ahead of WWE’s Wrestlemania 31 last April as he signed a big contract with the company. He said he immediately regretted the decision because his career in the Octagon was cut short after a bout with debilitation diverticulitis.
While the fight with Hunt is being called a “one-off” by many of his employers at WWE, Lesnar showed enthusiasm to get back in the Octagon after UFC 200 and once he fulfills his contractual obligations with Vince McMahon’s company.
There have even been rumors that he could step into the cage with Jon Jones if both come away victorious on Saturday.
“I don’t know. I feel really good,” Lesnar told FOX Sports last week. “Training camp is going great. I’m happy. I’m happy with my life. I’m happy with everything. Yes, since I left the Octagon after I got beat by (Alistair) Overeem and kind of forced out of the cage because of my illness, it haunted me for a long time. Here I am and before it’s too late, I want to get back in the cage and have some fun with it. This is all about having fun.
“I’m not looking past this fight. I’m just taking one day at a time. One training session at a time. Looking forward to July 9. I’m grateful that Mark Hunt took the fight, it was short notice for me and him so we’ll see what happens on the 9th.”
We already know that Brock Lesnar will return to WWE at their big summer event, Summerslam, which takes place on Aug 20th. But really, there is not telling what The Beast will do outside of the ring once he takes on whoever he will next month.
