It’s about to be a “No Pants Party” in the UFC if a Globo report regarding Daniel Cormier’s new opponent at UFC 200 proves to be true. Cormier was initially slated to face Jon Jones in the main event Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena, but Jones was flagged for a potential USADA violation and pulled from the card.
On Thursday, UFC president Dana White said the promotion was scrambling to find a new opponent for the light heavyweight champion and it looks like they may have settled on a new challenge.
According to Globo, mixed martial arts legend Anderson Silva is set to step up to face Cormier.
The reported Cormier vs. Silva fight would be a three-round, non-title fight.
The UFC has yet to comment on the reports and has made no official announcement regarding Cormier or a new opponent, but this would certainly make a splash and help ease the pain of fans who traveled to see Cormier vs. Jones.
For what it’s worth, White has said to MMAjunkie.com that the reports are “not true.”
Per @danawhite via text, reports of Silva vs. Cormier “not true."
