The Georgia Bulldogs and North Carolina Tar Heels will be meeting up in Atlanta for the 2016 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game to open up their season. They will take the field in front of a sellout crowd at the Georgia Dome.
This game between the premiere ACC and SEC programs is set to be one of the best during the opening weekend of the 2016 college football season.
With more than 70,000 fans likely to be in attendance, the game game just got that much better.
“It’s the earliest sellout of any game this season, kickoff game-wise,” Peach Bowl Inc. President and CEO Gary Stokan told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “And there are a lot of great kickoff games this year. It’s going to be one of our tougher tickets.”
Both Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora seem excited for the 2016 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. They both released statements on the opening game of the season.
“The Georgia Dome is one of the country’s most exciting venues and we are looking forward to playing before a sold out crowd,” Smart said in a statement released through the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. “I know the Georgia fans will be there in great numbers to support the Bulldogs and celebrate the kickoff of the season against a great North Carolina team.”
“We’re looking forward to opening the season in a sold out Georgia Dome against an outstanding program in Georgia,” Fedora said. “Our players have been working hard this offseason to prepare for what will surely be an incredible opportunity on a national stage.”
This will be the 31st meeting between the two teams and the first time they have met since the 1971 season. The Bulldogs have won four straight over the Tar Heels and hold a 16-12-2 advantage over them all time.
