James Harden agrees to $118 million renegotiation with Rockets

The Houston Rockets already knew that they would get to keep All-Star guard James Harden through the 2017-18 season, but now they will have him for just a little longer.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported the news on Saturday that Harden had agreed to a new contract worth $118 million. The renegotiated contract will keep him with the team through the 2018-19 season and would give him a player option for the following season.

A rule in the collective bargaining agreement allows the Rockets to use salary cap space to renegotiate the final two years of Harden’s contract, adding two years onto the deal in the process.

Harden will receiver nearly $10 million and $11 million raises over the next two seasons.

Last season, Harden averaged 29 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game on the year for the Rockets. He helped the team get to the first round of the NBA playoffs.
