We all know that Treon Harris will not be playing quarterback for the Florida Gators going into the 2016 season after he switched to wide receiver earlier this year. At this point, however, it doesn’t look like he will playing much at all as he is still on suspension.
Harris and sophomore wide receiver Antonio Callaway were placed on suspension earlier this year for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Head coach Jim McElwain took the stand at Tuesday’s SEC Media Days and talked about their status still being unclear at this point.
“Right now they’re obviously back on campus, doing team workouts and some things like that,” McElwain told a group of local reporters. “Nothing’s been resolved yet, and there’s really not a timeframe on it.”
It is unclear whether Harris or Callaway will be back on the team for the start of the season. While Treon Harris won’t compete for a spot behind center, he is certainly an athlete and could help them out tremendously.
Harris has served two suspensions in the past, one for a failed drug test and another after he was accused of sexual assault. The Gators will need to figure out what to do with these players soon if they want to have two of their better athletes back on the field this year.
Florida opens the season on Sept. 3 when they host the UMass Minutemen.
