Myles Garrett will not consider sitting out to protect draft status

The Texas A&M Aggies have one of the top defensive prospects and a potential No. 1 overall pick in star Myles Garrett, which led to some discussing whether the junior defensive end should consider sitting out the season to protect his draft stock.

Well, if you ask Garrett, that isn’t going to happen because he has some unfinished business to take care of.

Garrett discussed the topic during SEC Media Days.

“I’ve heard it but I’m against it. I want to be one of the best that’s ever come through A&M, and that would just be betraying the people I’ve played with and the people who have come before me, who have worked their butt off. … to get to a place where I could just sit out and then go? I don’t think I could do that,” Garrett said, via FOX Sports.

“You don’t disgrace the game like that and say, ‘It’s not worth my time and I’ll be a first-round pick anyway.’ You play because you love it, not because you can make money from it.”

Myles also announced his goal for what will likely be his final year of college.

During his media session, Myles said his goal is to eclipse 20 sacks on the year. If he can achieve that goal, being a No. 1 overall pick will be the natural progression in his journey to being a standout player in the NFL.
