Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes were looking to go into the 2016 season without any distractions on their side. However, defensive coordinator Greg Schiano was named in a Penn State deposition and they could have something to deal with for now.
Despite the recent news, Meyer doesn’t seem to be too concerned about the entire situation. He spoke with the Toledo Blade and talked about how these issues should be non-existent by the start of the 2016 season.
“I first heard about it several months ago and we had a long talk,” Meyer said. “I’ve known Greg for 20-some years. I have as much respect for Greg Schiano as I do any person — not just any coach, any person. We had the chat and he told me everything that happened. He stands by his statement and we stand by his statement.
“There’s no issue as far as I am concerned.”
Last week, it was reported that Schiano had been named in a deposition that said he knew of the child abuse at Penn State years ago. He has since denied those allegations and it looks like he wants to move forward with his life.
For the sake of Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes, they better hope it all blows over soon or this could get very ugly fast.
