Georgia OL Greg Pyke undergoes surgery for appendicitis

Last week, Georgia offensive lineman Greg Pyke was selected as a media preseason All-SEC First Team player. This week, he is out of practice after he underwent emergency surgery for a case of appendicitis.

It was reported by Fletcher Page of the Athens Banner-Herald that his surgery went well and it looks like he should make a full recovery. However, it did seem to be a pretty big health scare for the fifth-year senior and the Bulldogs.

Pyke is considered one of the best interior offensive linemen in the country this year and I would expect him to make a big contribution for the team this year. Despite being a long-time contributor, he put in hard work with the team this spring for new offensive line coach Sam Pittman and won the Coffee County Hustle Award after practices earlier this year.

In his career, Greg Pyke has made 27 appearances with 23 starts and he should be ready ahead of training camp and will be able to play in the season opener on Sept. 3 against North Carolina at the Georgia Dome.
