The sporting world has been rocked with recent lawsuits over long-term issues dealing with head injuries and concussions. It looks like the WWE has their own problems now as Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka is among a group of wrestlers suing the company over claims that they hid the long-term effects of head trauma.
The wrestlers, who also include Hall of Famers “Road Warrior Animal” Joseph Laurinaitis and “King Kong Bundy” Chris Pallies, claim that the WWE put its own personal gain over the health and wellbeing of its employees, according to Chris Dolmetsch of Bloomberg.
This lawsuit is much different from the ones brought against the NBA and NFL as it claims because the moves are “scripted, controlled, directed, and choreographed” by the WWE, it could have been handled better at the time.
“The WWE knows that its wrestlers including the plaintiffs are at great risk for these diseases such as CTE that can result in suicide, drug abuse, and violent behavior that pose a danger to not only the athletes themselves but their families and community, yet the WWE does nothing to warn, educate or provide treatment to them,” the suit alleges.
WWE has dealt with this lawyer in the past with multiple cases being brought against the one who is representing “Superfly” and the rest of the former wrestlers.
“This is another ridiculous attempt by the same attorney who has previously filed class action lawsuits against WWE, both of which have been dismissed,” the company said in a statement. “A federal judge has already found that this lawyer made patently false allegations about WWE, and this is more of the same.”
In the past, WWE was accused of being directly responsible for the horrific turn former superstar Chris Benoit took in 2007 when he murdered his wife and son and then killed himself at their home in Atlanta, Georgia.
