The Alabama Crimson Tide are favored to once again win the national title going into the 2016 college football season, but head coach Nick Saban doesn’t seem to agree with that. He talked about how he believed Clemson should be the favorite because they return one player: Deshaun Watson.
Watson was one of the best players in the country last year as he accounted for over 5,214 total yards and 47 touchdowns and finished third in the voting for the Heisman Trophy. Saban discussed the Clemson quarterback is the “best college player since Cam Newton,” who won the Heisman and a national title with Auburn in 2010.
While the Clemson Tigers will be led by Deshaun Watson this season, Saban has yet to decide on a new quarterback. He did mention, however, that their quarterback play will never be able to match up to Watson’s.
“I don’t care who we start at quarterback,” Saban said. “He ain’t going to be that good.”
That is pretty high praise from Saban, who has seen some pretty talented players come out of Tuscaloosa over the last decade. It will be interesting to see if these two teams meet up on the field, possibly for the national title, this year.
