Report: Baylor strict student conduct code kept victims from reporting rape

Baylor University has been immersed in a sexual assault scandal all summer, and recent reports indicate potential victims may have been silenced by the school’s code of conduct.

Jim Vertuno of the Associated Press reported that the school’s code banning alcohol, drugs and premarital sex may have coerced students from speaking out about the rape.

“A number of victims were told that if they made a report of rape, their parents would be informed of the details of where they were and what they were doing,” said Chad Dunn, a Houston attorney who represents six women who have sued Baylor.

Baylor is the largest Baptist university in the country is very conservative about the usual actions of a college student, including partying regularly. This is certainly going to end up being an interesting development to this case over the next few months.
