After Tyron Woodley shocked the world over the weekend by claiming the UFC welterweight title with a knockout win over Robbie Lawler in Atlanta, the new UFC champion wasted no time calling out “big money fights” like Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre.
Well, mixed martial arts fans, get excited, because it appears as though one of those fighters is taking the bait.
According to MMAFighting.com following UFC 201, St-Pierre was asked whether he was interested in a bout with Woodley on two occasions. Both of those times, St-Pierre responded with a text message that read, “yes.”
St-Pierre hasn’t fought since UFC 167 in Nov. 2013.
However, in recent months, there has been plenty of discussion and buzz about a potential comeback fight for the man many consider to be the greatest 170-pounder of all-time.
But could a bout actually come together?
If Woodley truly wants big money fights and the UFC is interested in bringing St-Pierre back, a November meeting at UFC 205 in New York City seems like the perfect time to bring back one of the greatest fighters to ever grace the Octagon.
And hey, if St-Pierre wants the fight and Woodley wants the fight, let’s make a deal.
