The UFC is reportedly working on a big name matchup in the lightweight division for an upcoming card in Mexico City.
On Tuesday afternoon, FOX Sports reported the UFC is targeting a meeting between former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos and rising star Tony Ferguson for November 5 in Mexico City. The event would serve as the finale for season three of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America.”
The UFC has not confirmed the news.
If the bout comes to fruition, it would provide a great opportunity for dos Anjos to get another crack at his title.
After losing his belt to Eddie Alvarez during International Fight Week in Las Vegas back in July, dos Anjos is hoping to get back in the win column. It won’t be easy, however, against an opponent like Ferguson who has been rolling through his opponents.
Ferguson enters the bout on an eight-fight winning streak.
If Ferguson is able to make it nine in a row by beating the former champ, the UFC will no longer be able to deny him a title shot so you know Ferguson will be prepared when he steps into the Octagon.
