The United States men’s rugby sevens team took the field in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday for the start of the 2016 Summer Olympics tournament. Suiting up for the USA was Nate Ebner, a safety for the New England Patriots.
Ebner is missing part of training camp in order to represent the United States in rugby sevens, but it is clear that his teammates and coaching staff are supporting his effort.
During Tuesday’s practice, reporters began sharing photos of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and members of the coaching staff wearing Nate Ebner rugby shirts.

They were on the practice field during Ebner’s first game, but Belichick informed his players they would all be coming together to watch Ebner’s second match of the day. It’s great to see teammates supporting each other even when there is a crossover in sports.
Let’s hope Ebner and company can bounce back from an early loss to Argentina to potentially make a surprise run for the podium.
