The Clemson Tigers are looking to get back to the ACC championship and possibly the College Football Playoff this year and they certainly have all the right tools to do it. One player that is looking for a bit of redemption is wide receiver Mike Williams.
In the Tigers’ season opener against Wofford, Williams suffered a life-threatening neck injury when he went head first in to the goal post. He was stretchered off the field and he wasn’t able to play the rest of the season.
Now, it looks like Clemson wide receivers coach Jeff Scott is pretty confident in what Williams will be able to do. In fact, he told The Post and Courier that the fourth-year junior plays a lot like former Clemson receivers Sammy Watkins, Martavis Bryant and DeAndre Hopkins.
“I think he has potential to be as good as any guy that we’ve had here. He definitely has potential to be in that conversation,” Scott said. “He’s made some plays in practice that remind us of some of those guys whenever they were here. There’s no doubt we see him in that same light.”
Williams seems to be healing well and should be a full-go when the Tigers take the field against Auburn on Sept. 3. In the two seasons prior to last year, Williams recorded 1,346 yards and nine touchdowns.
