Five Notre Dame players arrested Saturday morning

It was reported Saturday morning that Notre Dame cornerback Devin Butler had been arrested for battery and resisting arrest. Now it seems the Fighting Irish have taken another hit when five other players were arrested in a separate incident after a traffic stop.

ESPN reported that senior safety Max Redfield, redshirt freshman cornerback Ashton White, freshman wide receiver Kevin Stepherson, sophomore running back Dexter Williams and sophomore linebacker Te’von Coney had been arrested and charged with possession after police found marijuana in the car during a speeding traffic stop. Redfield, Stepherson and Williams were also charged with possession of a handgun without a license.

The biggest hit for the Fighting Irish is likely Redfield, who had started at safety the last two seasons and was the team’s fourth-leading tackler in 2015. Williams also recorded 81 yards on 21 carries last year.

It certainly seems like Notre Dame could have a lot of trouble to deal with for the early part of the 2016 season. They better hope it is all cleared up by their season opener on Sept. 4 against Texas.
