Following his last bout, Rory MacDonald, who was the No. 2 ranked welterweight in the UFC, hit free agency. As the top free agent on the market, there was interest from every promotion and he finally landed with his new home on Wednesday.
According to Flo Combat, MacDonald has signed with Bellator MMA. He was removed from UFC’s official rankings Wednesday afternoon.
MacDonald has a professional record of 18-4, with two of his losses coming from his previous two fights. He most recently fell to Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night on June 18.
MacDonald made his UFC debut on Jan. 11, 2010, defeating Mike Guymon by submission. He suffered his first professional loss when he fell to Carlos Condit at UFC 115 later that year.
The Canadian star is one of the top fighters in MMA, so it will be interesting to see how Bellator handles his first fight in the promotion.
A title shot seems likely.
