Ex-Oregon TE Colt Lyerla arrested for heroin possession

A troubled pattern of off-field behavior for former Oregon Ducks tight end Colt Lyerla continues.

On Monday, reports surfaced that the ex-Duck was arrested in Washington County for heroin possession over the weekend. Oregon Live was first to report the news.

Lyerla was once a promising prospect at Oregon, but his off-field decisions led to a downward spiral that led to him eventually quitting the football team and struggling to remain on an NFL roster.

In past years, Lyerla has been arrested on DUI charges and cocaine possession.

It’s always sad to see such a talented player throw his career down the drain because of substance-abuse issues, so hopefully Lyerla will be able to get his life in order.

His playing career is over, but he is still just 23 years old.

Let’s hope that Lyerla gets the helmet that he needs and can begin turning around his life so that this sad story does not have a tragic ending.
