WKU DL Trae Jones injured in nightclub shooting

Western Kentucky defensive lineman Trae Jones was reportedly injured early Friday morning in a nightclub shooting following the Hilltoppers’ season-opener against Rice.

Chad Bishop of WBKO-TV reported the incident occurred outside Chocolate City Nightclub in Bowling Green.

From the report:

Bowling Green Police say at 2:18 am Friday, they were told a woman was assaulted at Chocolate City nightclub and was at a hospital. Police say Trae Jones was also at the hospital and was shot outside Chocolate City. A WKU spokesperson confirmed Jones was a defensive lineman for the football team. Jones is a Redshirt Junior from Georgia. Last year he did not play in any games.

Western Kentucky did not comment on the incident, but acknowledged they are aware and gathering more information.

The Hilltoppers return to action next weekend with a big match up against the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa.
