Butch Jones congratulates Appalachian State after opener

The college football season got off to a wild start when the Tennessee Volunteers, who are a preseason top ten and one of the favorites in the SEC, struggled to handle Appalachian State in the season-opener.

It took a strong second half defensive performance and some plays down the stretch to overcome a ten-point deficit for an overtime win.

After the game, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones was appreciative of his opponent.

While the Mountaineers were in their post-game huddle on the field, Jones went over and delivered some words of encouragement and praise for their valiant effort which pushed the Vols to the brink.

You have to love that sportsmanship.

Appalachian State gave it their all, but ultimately fell just short of kicking off their 2016 campaign on a high note. The good news is their strong showing should set a positive tone for the remainder of the season.
