Utah’s Mitch Wishnowsky named Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week

With Week 1 of the college football season in the books, weekly award winners are beginning to be handed out and Utah punter Mitch Wishnowsky has one honor to add to his name.

On Tuesday, the Augusta Sports Council and Ray Guy Award announced Wishnowsky has been named Punter of the Week for his outstanding performance on opening weekend against Southern Utah in Salt Lake City.

Wishnowsky punted the ball six times for 333 yards; an impressive average of 55.5 yards per punt.

With two touchbacks and two punts downed inside of the 20-yard line, Wishnowsky finished the game with a net punting average of 46.8. His punting average for the game set a new school record which was held by two-time Ray Guy Award winner Tom Hackett.

If Wishnowsky can keep his leg strong throughout the season, he should be well on his way to following in the footsteps of Hackett.

Utah returns to action this weekend against BYU.
