Eastern Washington, Florida set to meet in 2020

The Eastern Washington Eagles are one of the best teams in the FCS as they won double digit games four times from 2010-2014 and made two semifinals appearances and a national title in 2010. They will be meeting up with one of the better teams in the FBS in four years.

The Eagles announced on Wednesday that they will meet up with the Florida Gators in the 2020 season. This is significant because head coach Jim McElwain played for Eastern Washington from 1980-1983 and was an assistant coach from 1985-1994.

“We thank everybody involved, including Coach McElwain, for making it possible for us to play such a great SEC program,” Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin said. “It’s a tremendous honor for us at Eastern Washington and we look forward to the opportunity to play Florida.”

McElwain talked about having the opportunity to face off with his Alma Mater. He seems pretty excited about the opportunity to face off against the Eagles.

“This is pretty cool to be able to add Eastern Washington to the schedule,” said McElwain. “I spent 15 years at Eastern and it is such a huge part of my life. I met my wife, Karen, there and all of my children were born there. I have so many great memories of my time at Eastern and I still have friends there to this day.”

This will be the first meeting between these two teams.
