When Tennessee kicked off against Appalachian State this past Thursday, most of us watching probably weren’t expecting the Mountaineers to keep it close, let alone take the Volunteers to overtime; one of teacher Emily Thomas’ second-grade students included.
On Tuesday, Thomas tweeted the following screenshot of her student’s in-class responses:
How 1 of my students (2nd grade) felt about the @Vol_Football game Thursday. š She ended it with…. "Go Vols." š pic.twitter.com/GfPBslqtSO

“Last night, I went to my Nana’s house to watch the football game. We suck. That game was a nightmare. We almost lost. It really was a nightmare.”
Sometimes, nobody puts it more honestly than children.
Thomas’ student sounds like she might have a sports coaching job in the future – the use of bluntness, i.e. her short and vicious “We suck” line, is quite an advanced coaching method for somebody her age.
Hopefully, Butch Jones takes advantage of this funny, yet sadly accurate gem and uses it to motivate his players to go a smidge harder their next game vs. the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday, Sept. 10.
