Oklahoma basketball: Finnish center Hannes Pöllä commits to Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners basketball program received a nice addition to its front court on Thursday. According to a report from Scout.com, 6-foot-11 Finnish center Hannes Pöllä has committed to Oklahoma.

Pöllä chose to play for Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger’s team over Penn State and Tulane.

“He had three real good choices and I think with Oklahoma, everything came together,” Helsinki Basketball Academy coach Hanno Möttölä told Scout. “He wants to play at the highest level and play for an extremely good coach. Obviously, I played for coach Kruger, so it was a situation where he felt very comfortable and he had a great visit. The intriguing part at a high-level program like Oklahoma is they want to make him a feature center.”

The 18-year-old big man represented Finland at the U18 Nordic Championships over the summer.

During the tournament, Pöllä averaged 7.6 points and 8.2 rebounds.

Playing in the Big 12 will be a big step up in competition for Pöllä, but he seems eager and excited for the challenge. He becomes the second member of Oklahoma’s Class of 2017.
