Earlier this year, Georgia running back Sony Michel suffered a broken arm in an ATV accident and had to undergo surgery, which was scheduled to keep him out of action for six weeks.
That timetable has now expired, but he has yet to be given the all-clear to return to the field.
Head coach Kirby Smart talked about Michel on his radio show Thursday night and said that he is not ready to return yet. He said that Michel, who has been practicing in a non-contract jersey for the last three weeks, is “still waiting to be cleared.”
This echoes the comments Smart made following the team’s season-opener in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.
In last Saturday’s game against North Carolina at the Georgia Dome, Michel dressed out and warmed up with the team. However, he did no see any playing time due to him not being cleared.
When he does return to the team, which will likely be next week against Missouri, he will be able to give Nick Chubb a rest. In 2015, he rushed for 1,134 yards and eight touchdowns while catching passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns.
