LSU quarterback Brandon Harris was pulled in favor of Purdue transfer Danny Etling after the Tigers’ awful first quarter against Jacksonville State last night. It was a completely different offensive story, but head coach Les Miles doesn’t seem ready to make a permanent change right now.
On his first drive, Etling hit DeSean Smith with a 46-yard touchdown strike and ended the night with 100 yards through the air and rushed for a touchdown.
Despite hm looking efficient, Miles won’t commit to Etling and he wants to give Harris every chance they can.
“We’re trying to get Brandon comfortable and settled down, but I don’t know if that will happen,” Miles told reporters after the win. “It depends how this quarterback competition plays out.”
Miles seemed to downplay Etling’s play in the game. He said that his accuracy was not where they wanted it to be.
“He was not perfect by any means,” Miles said of the Purdue transfer. “As I recall, he’s 6-for-14, which is not what we want, and we had some guys wide open, certainly, but that was his first start – his first playing time I should say – and certainly performed well, to a point.”
It will be interesting to see what the Tigers do before they meet up with Mississippi State next Saturday.
