Oklahoma State HC Mike Gundy releases statement on blown ending

On Saturday, the Oklahoma State Cowboys lost an upset to Central Michigan on a ridiculous Hail Mary/lateral play which was the final touch of a controversial ending. Head coach Mike Gundy didn’t seem to be too happy about the end of the game, but he seemed to be more upset about the play he called rather than the controversy surrounding the game.

He talked about how the intentional grounding called on the Chippewas on the penultimate play of the game should have been the last.

However, it wasn’t and Central Michigan got one more chance to win the game, which they did.

“I’m disappointed in myself that I called a play that could have been interpreted as intentional grounding,” Gundy said.

“That play has been on our playbooks for 12 years now and intentional grounding and an untimed down after the last play of the game bever even crossed my mind. Of course in hindsight, I wish I would have done it differently, but in the big picture the game should have been over.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this strange situation in the coming days.
